APRIL 2021 UPDATE
We are six weeks in to the rollout of our abstinence based recovery program. The great news is every delegate that walked through the door when we opened is still with us, clean from all mood and mind altering drugs including alcohol. They are experiencing complete freedom from addiction.
One of our biggest achievements to date is one of the women who was attending Carrie's Drop-In is now attending the day program and is working really hard to make positive changes in her life.
We are extremely proud of her, we are proud of all our delegates.
We have three counsellors working with us, a support worker and peer mentor. Together we are getting to the root causes of our delegates' addiction and teaching them the important tools they will need to carry on with recovery once they graduate from the program in May.
Some are now attending mutual aid groups and have built up recovery capital, a network of other recovering addicts which we believe is fundamental to the recovery process.
In the upcoming weeks, we will have Southend Adult Community College coming in to teach courses to our delegates while supporting them in to achieving some educational goals. We will then look at volunteering opportunities in the community with them to help them learn new skills and build on their CV, eventually supporting them back in to employment.
Some have expressed wanting to volunteer with us.
Once lockdown eases will be sending our delegates out once a week on day trips to have some self care and fun time.
Recovery is to be enjoyed, not endured.
Watching the light come back on someone's eyes and witnessing the growth and seeing hope in someone's future is one of our favourite things.
The vision was to bring a recovery community to our town, so other people caught up in addiction could see some hope.
The vision is very much become a reality.
